Steven from Chicago is active, fun-loving, and chasing his dream of becoming a firefighter. He's a senior in high school and part of the Chicago Police Fire Training Academy program, working toward his goal of serving his community.
About a year ago, Steven was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma. In his first time at Camp Simcha, he's been amazed by the friendships he's made and how the entire community has rallied around him. Chai Lifeline has supported Steven every step of the way, providing advocacy, special events, meals, and so much more. From parties with gifts to everyday support, Steven has witnessed something beautiful: "Everyone in our community gets together and is there for each other."
The experience has made him grow and reflect, leading to a philosophy that guides him forward: "Don't think about the past. Live in the moment and keep on moving forward." When he needs to lift his spirits, he hangs out with friends and focuses on the positive.
Steven is thankful for his friends, family, and "just life itself." His message to everyone is simple: "Stay happy and healthy." For someone who received life-changing news just a few months ago, Steven's choice to focus forward rather than backward is nothing short of inspiring.
