Seasons of Respite

Have you ever felt like you needed a day off from the stress of life?

For mothers of sick children, a day off is a dream they postpone not because of lack of will, but often for lack of opportunity. Chai Lifeline West Coast’s Seasons of Respite, an innovative program of four one-day retreats that focus on mind, body and spirit, is a wish come true.

Seasons of Respite is acclaimed for the vital relaxation and support that it affords mothers caring for ill children. The most recent retreat, the annual Marilyn Sohacheski Spa Day, was no exception. Fifty mothers were pampered with massages, facials, manicures, pedicures and specialized spa treatments at the Tikkun Holistic Spa. They shared their day with peers, giving them a unique opportunity to talk about the pressures of parenting a very sick child with the only people who truly understand the challenges.

"There is no greater gift than to be able to impact the lives of others," explained Marilyn. "The joy I receive from this day and knowing we are providing a little relief and relaxation to these women who carry so much on their shoulders - it is the best feeling in the world."

It was an amazing day for mothers who loved the chance to escape from stress and breathe deeply for these precious hours. They left calmer, happier and stronger, more able to face The Battle once again.
