Yacht rides…extreme pampering…great food…even better company. Sounds like a
great vacation, right? Ten couples of very sick children enjoyed all of that and more in
one day, thanks to a generous couple who opened their homes and hearts to mothers
and dads who needed a few hours to breathe deeply and relax.
“Vacay for a Day was a great solution to the ever-present challenged faced by our parents,” said Ellen Weiss, MSW, Chai Lifeline Southeast director. “They desperately need some down time, but going away isn’t always an option.
Parents arrived at the waterside home in time for a sumptuous breakfast. Dads then boarded a yacht for some male bonding time on the high seas while moms enjoyed massages and makeovers. The groups came together again for a festive barbecue before heading home in the evening.
“Perfect!” was the consensus among parents, who valued the opportunity to find support from new and old friends and to spend time with spouses. “Having time to unwind is the ultimate luxury,” sighed one parent. “Every Chai Lifeline parent should have this day.”
