This summer, like last year I will bike 150 miles from the Jersey Shore to Camp Simcha, an extraordinary overnight camp that gives children with cancer a vacation from sickness that restores their spirits and renews their determination to fight illness.
Last year when I pulled into camp I witnessed one of the most amazing sights I have ever seen. There are no words to describe the joy on the campers faces when we rode through the tent and into the crowd of a few hundred people, consisting of campers, counselors, and family members. There was not a dry eye there. This was the event of the year for some of them. To watch these children dance - some in wheelchairs - and sing is one of the most memorable things I have ever seen.
The ride won’t be easy, but neither is life for a child with cancer or other serious illness. Camp Simcha and its sister camp, Camp Simcha Special, are the organization’s flagship programs. Every year these two camps offer 430 children a chance to forget about illness and just be kids again. (To learn more about Camp Simcha and Camp Simcha special, visit www.campsimcha.org.) I will be biking to camp on Wednesday and Thursday Aug. 8rd & 9th. My objective is to raise $3,600 by then and I hope you will help me reach this goal. All donations are 100% tax-deductible.
Please contribute by clicking on the donate button now.or sending a check, made payable to Chai Lifeline, to me at (1085 East 12th st, Brooklyn NY 11230).
Thank you for supporting me, and in doing so, helping children and their families cope with the diagnosis, treatment, and aftermath of serious pediatric illness.
Best regards, Tiny Nussbaum
